Arrival 04:35
(Translation) Last night, Insects of the fields accompanied in ballads, A room which echoed the remnants of our laughter. Stillness. A cloudless sky. Even the simple wishes which never came true Strangely, in my calmness, grew distant, Like spring winds, lightly stinging my nostrills. The arrival of the steam whistle was as it has always done. It traversed between the swell of waves, Past the dirt floor of the fisherman's home, Cut through the voices of children, And interrupt the selep of the fruit bat, Until it finally settled in the crater of the Shindake Volcano. And, When it taught you a meaning of silence, I learned this is the farewell. The whistle, will likely go on to become a song, So as not to drown in the ideals of someone Who waits across the horizon. Now, There is rainbow you have adorned over the sea, And swaying in the salty wind, The ship sounds the steam whistle for the second time today.

Written by Rintaro Mikami [First Fish] Reflect in bubbles, then all their words had gone. Beats had taken him out to the big great blue. If I could draw your light turquoise, this ceiling would let me fall asleep. A boy is still there and waiting for reflection in the bubbles.

about

The places we live leave a deep imprint. In the case of drummer and composer Rintaro Mikami, it was life on the small island of Kuchinoerabu in the south of Japan that inspired his debut release as a leader, First Fish.

First Fish refers to Mikami’s earliest experience living on the island, a memory that would guide him as he matured and developed his own artistic sensibility after returning to Tokyo. Later he pursued music studies for seven years in the great music capital of New York, and grew to become the fine drummer and creative, well-rounded musician that we hear now. All nine tracks on First Fish weave together the story of Mikami’s journey, from the island to this day.
